Counties Mar 14 027It was certainly a busy couple of days for GCSC swimmers during the 2nd weekend of the County Championships. 78 swimmers aged between 10-20 years old competed for GCSC in approximately 312 events and achieved a fantastic 82% PB rate across the board (heats and finals). The medal haul continued with a further 46 Golds, 30 Silvers and 19 Bronze medals (combined total for able bodied and disability swimmers). Our swimmers also took 11 Championship titles, 9 new County Age Group Best Times (AGBT) and 3 short course Age Group National Qualification Times (NQTs) as well as numerous Stroke awards for our Youth Swimmers (details yet to be published).

Craig Munden (16 years) claimed 5 Championships over the weekend. In the 400m free and 200IM he took the Overall County and Senior County titles in a lifetime best of 4:03.49 and 2:09.33 respectively. In the 200m back he claimed the Senior County Championship in a big PB of 2:05.27.

Sophie Tebbs (15 years) claimed 3 Championships. In the 100m free she took the Overall County and Junior County Championship in a life time best of 58.33. In the 200IM Sophie took the Junior County Championship in a PB time of 2:22.31.

Sophie Hall (15 years) won both the Overall County and Junior County Championship in the 400m free in a time of 4:18.79 which is also an Age Group Best Time (AGBT).

Chris Malone, aged just 13 years old, took the Junior Championship in the 100m breast in a fantastic life time best of 1:13.18.
There were so many highlights over the weekend for GCSC swimmers as a whole. A full results report is attached and they speak for themselves…. Well done to each and every member of Team GCSC! The final weekend of the County Championships takes place on 22-23 March with the last of the individual events on Saturday and the team relays on the Sunday. The GCSC theme for the relay day will be “Super Heroes” all in a very worthy cause. Feel free to dress up as you see fit!
