Luke Jeffrey Memorial Trust

Gloucester City Swimming Club first became involved with the Luke Jeffrey Trust in 2008 when two of our swimmers attended the very first Competitive Training Day.

This was held in memory of Luke Jeffrey who died in April 2006 from Shallow Water Blackout just before his sixteenth birthday.

This day had been one of the early visions of the family members of the Trust.

Kirsty Hepburn and Ely Seymour travelled to Coventry 50m Pool and spent the day being coached by 3 British medal winners.

There were swimmers from all over the region brought together through a common goal of a love of swimming and a desire to compete. Land training sessions were held through the day and there was a chance to chat to the coaches, look at their Olympic medals and of course, the infamous GB tracksuits!

The family of Luke Jeffrey were an inspiration to us all in the positive way in which they were coping with the loss of their son. We felt there should be some way we could give something back to thank them for their generosity of spirit and the fabulous experience that the girls had had in the pool. Hence the first fundraiser was born at our Four Seasons Gala held just before Christmas.

We have continued with this tradition ever since, helping to raise money and promote awareness of Shallow Water Blackout.

In 2009 Charlotte Smith attended the Trusts Training Day and in 2010 three swimmers were chosen to represent Gloucester City (Lucy Hepburn, Jordan Lee and Mikey Stalker).

We have continued to stay in touch with the Jeffrey Family and look forward to welcoming them to our fundraiser.
