Swimtastic Awards
Some of you may be aware, however I suspect not all.
On behalf of Gloucester City SC, I would like to offer our congratulations to Marian Limbird for winning the Kelloggs Swimtastic - Parent of the Year.
Marian picked up her award at a star studded evening following an inspirational day at Ponds Forge in Sheffield on Saturday November 5th.
Below are a few words from Marian that formed part of her acceptance speech. Uplifting you may find!
Cogratulations.
Marcus Lee
GCSC Chairman
Team GB athletes presented the awards to the winners and there was a special video message for Marian Limbird, winner of the Parent of the Year Award, from the parents of Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington.
Vicky Bowen (GBR Water Polo) presented the award.
There are few things that I would like to take this opportunity to say -
"As a parent, I believe in investing in our future, our future being our children. Both as a parent and through my roles as a Welfare officer and chaperone at GCSC, I have become increasingly aware of how inspirational and important swimming can be for our children.
Swimming develops physical skills, self esteem, the ability to be a team player and opportunities to achieve individual success at many levels. It helps empower our children with self-discipline, self belief and focus. It provides a social environment where true friendships evolve and happy memories are made, not just for the swimmer but parents and all individuals involved.
To be a swimmer, whether training 1 hour or 16 hours a week requires commitment and dedication at a level which must be commended.
For many, swimming is a source of stability when growing up. Swimmers rely on their routine, organisation and support networks. This can only continue to develop and grow with ongoing support of parents, from getting their children to their early morning training sessions, to undertaking one of the many work force volunteer roles.
For me I have been privileged to play a part and watch these athletes, including my own 2 children, meet their potential, take part in a sport that is enjoyable and fun and provides a sense of achievement and satisfaction at all levels.
The time and effort invested as a parent has been repaid many times over the years by the children. From their smiles of happiness celebrating their successes, to them thriving on their journeys through the swimming club structure.
I am certain this will stand them in good stead in whatever their future may hold.
