Pool Training

We are fortunate to have the use of the Gloucester GL1 Leisure Centre as the base for all our pool training, as well as local competition. For long-course training (50-metre pool) we use the excellent Bath University pool.

We use two swimming pools at GL1 – Barton Pool and Twyver Pool. Both pools are adjoined by dedicated changing and showering facilities. Barton Pool is located alongside the main swimming pool changing village.

Barton Pool

Barton Pool is an 8-lane, 25-metre competition pool with a stadium seating area as well as a raised spectator viewing gallery above the starting end. The pool features a purpose-build competition cubicle and announcer stand.

Twyver Pool

Twyver Pool is a 4-lane, 25-metre training pool that provides an enclosed and cosy training venue. There is very limited spectator viewing space.

GL1 Leisure Centre is operated by Freedom Leisure. More information about the venue can be obtained from Freedom’s website.

Land Training

In addition to the swimming training programme, we also put our swimmers through a land-training program focused at building core strength and balanced physical development. Land training is conducted either poolside within the Twyver Pool, at one of the Studios at GL1 Leisure Centre, or at the University of Gloucestershire Oxstalls campus. Please see the squad training schedules for specific Land Training venue assignments.
